Risotteria Melotti | NYC

I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while but just never got around to it. Risotto has never been my thing and seeing how this place is a risotto restaurant, it wasn’t that appealing. The only reason I came around was because this place is 100% gluten free. I will try ANY restaurant that is 100% gluten free. And this menu doesn’t just have risotto on it either which is a big plus.

Food (8.8)

I really enjoyed the food here. In terms of overall food quality, the score should be much higher as everything is top notch quality. The rice ball appetizer is by far the best rice balls I’ve had. That means this beats out my recent favorite rice balls from Rubirosa along with Senza Gluten and Bistango at the Kimberly Hotel. That says a lot as those restaurants are top dogs in the gluten free game. The fried calamari was very good too but it lacked a little bit in flavor. Some calamari doesn’t need a dipping sauce while others do. This falls into the latter category. Calamari from Bin 14 in Hoboken and Carbone in NYC don’t require sauces which I like much better. The risotto was fantastic though – mine was the truffle one with added mushrooms. My gluten eating counterpart had the one with shrimp and that was equally as good. But where this place shines is the dessert. We got an ice cream sandwich and profiteroles which were incredible and the perfect way to end a safe 100% gluten free meal.

Menu (N/A)

This can’t be rated since the entire menu is 100% gluten free. No gluten whatsoever goes into the kitchen or out of the kitchen.

Service (N/A)

This can’t be rated either since the whole restaurant is 100% gluten free. This service rating is always dependent on how safely the servers and the kitchen handle gluten free eating and their level of knowledge.

Did I Get Sick (NO)

Again, this restaurant is entirely gluten free so no problem. For those that are dairy sensitive, there are dairy free alternatives to a few desserts and other menu items that I noticed.

Overall (8.8)

It’s tough to give an overall rating to any restaurant that is 100% gluten free. That’s because at these kinds of restaurants, many categories are not able to be rated. So because of that, this overall rating is 100% reflective of the food rating. Overall though, I very much recommend this restaurant, especially if you are a fan of risotto.
